A new year brings new blessings

“Happy New Year” to all the supporters, donors and teachers who support Blessings in a Backpack of SWFL!

It’s a long way until January, but for us, this time of year is our new year. Lee County school doors open on Friday, Aug. 10 and Collier schools open on Wednesday, Aug. 15th. This means that once again, over 60,000 food-insufficient children in our area will be returning to school.

This summer, these children were provided with meals by the FDA feeding programs located all over our area. But now that school is back in session, these children will be given free lunch and breakfast on school days.

But who will feed these kids over the weekend?

Starting in a few weeks, Blessings in a Backpack of SWFL will be giving 4,000 children food for the weekend, but based on our area’s need, we are barely scratching the surface.

How can you help us spread the word?

Just $100.00 feeds one child every weekend during the school year. That means that each child is provided with four nutritious and healthy meals to take home for the weekend. The food is shelf-stable and does not need to be heated up or microwaved.
That $100 equals 152 meals! It’s a pure bargain that brings huge outcomes!

Spread the word among your friends, clubs and churches. If all of us would “adopt” one child to feed this school year, we could make such a profound impact on our community.

Our teachers share so many great stories about the children who receive our help. Absentee rates are down, students are better behaved and most of all, they are sitting in their classrooms with full bellies, ready to learn.

So, when you see the school buses back on the roads and see the children walking to school with their new backpacks full of new school supplies, remember the children in our community who need your help with one of the fundamental basics of life: food.

Thank you all,

Warmest regards,
Cecilia St. Arnold
