Who will feed the kids this weekend?
This is the question we are continually asking at Blessings in a Backpack. Why? While most people can’t wait for the weekend, kids at risk of hunger can’t wait for it to be over. In fact, 11 million kids in America won’t have enough food to eat this weekend.
The current public health emergency has highlighted just how vulnerable these 11 million food-insecure children are. Typically, these kids rely on the food that schools provide during the week and Blessings in a Backpack food on the weekends. The school closures have changed this arrangement. Accordingly, we’ve had to adjust our traditional question. We’re now asking:
Who will feed the kids when schools are closed?
We are hoping that you will choose to answer, “I will” to ensure these kids are fed during this emergency and when they return to school.
Help Blessings in a Backpack continue to feed kids during this public health emergency. As little as $4 provides a Blessings bag of food to a child facing food insecurity now and when kids return to school.
Help us feed one more child this weekend. $4.00 will feed one child, weekend meals.
How to Help: Create a Fundraiser for Blessings in a Backpack
- Login to your Facebook account
- Go to Blessings in a Backpack’s Facebook page: facebook.com/BlessingsinaBackpack. For tax purposes, you MUST use this Facebook page, even if you’re supporting a Blessings in a Backpack program in your community.
- Click the ‘Create Fundraiser’ button, located underneath the cover photo.
- Fill in the blanks, including the Goal Amount and the End Date for your fundraiser. Most people can raise $200. Consider making your goal $500 if you have more than a couple hundred Facebook friends.
- Click ‘Next’ and create your fundraiser title. If you’re raising money for a specific program, include that in the title. For example, “Buddy’s fundraiser for Blessings in a Backpack at Field Elementary School.” The following section allows you to tell your friends why you chose Blessings. For example, “Blessings in a Backpack’s mission is important to me because…”
- Again, click ‘Next’ and choose a photo. Select an image from the Blessings image library on Facebook.
- Now you will invite your Facebook friends to the fundraiser. Facebook will automatically direct you to this screen. Click ‘Invite’ next to your friend’s name will tell them that you created a fundraiser.
- You can return to your fundraising page and share the fundraiser to your timeline by clicking the ‘Share’ button.
You and Blessings in a Backpack will be notified when people donate to your fundraiser. Facebook will provide a tax receipt to all donors acknowledging their generosity and support of Blessings in a Backpack.

Because of this mission, we have witnessed the power of communities when they come together toward a common goal.
